Feel Beautiful NOW!

I’m a little rusty at this blogging thing, here I am trying to be sure I do all the right things for business like mention that this is Westchester County Wedding Photography, tag all the appropriate vendors and then think of some witty banter to describe the incredible details, but  I really can’t focus on this post as I should be writing it for business purposes because these two are family to me.  I simply want to gush about these people that I adore having the most incredible and beautiful wedding.   I don’t always put my hat in the ring when I hear someone I know has gotten engaged; working for your friends is not always easy. I have been slowing down how many weddings I take on personally over the last few years to spend more time with my family and really enjoy the process with the clients I do accept personally. I am so grateful that they asked me to be their photographer because I simply cannot imagine not photographing this day for these two amazing people who are truly beautiful amazing people inside and out.   I have never really thought of myself as a Westchester Wedding Photographer but I have to say I think we knocked this one out of the park!

Now that I’ve already told you that I just love these two lets go back in time a bit, say to the night that Monica and Todd met.

Let me set the stage, Monica and I are having a girls night. You know those nights where you swear you are never dating again and that you only need each other in fact she even gave me a ring! We were off to a wonderful Thelma and Louise style evening when we realized we were looking pretty snazzy and we should probably go out dancing for a bit and not waste all that hotness we were rockin. I’m pretty sure when we announced we were going out I heard the Danbury dating scene tremble with fear!

Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 7.00.03 PM

Ha ha ha well maybe not, but we were definitely out to blow off some steam and do a little dancing.

As Monica and I were walking in to the bar to dance, Todd was with a friend and was walking out.  Monica caught his eye and he spun right back around and came in to take his best shot.  I have to say I’m grateful Todd’s friends were good company because I’m pretty sure we became invisible to our friends pretty quickly as the night seemed to slip away from them dancing and laughing and talking.  I have such crazy fond memories of repeating this outing on several more occasions with my now husband and these two crazy characters. Now Monica was my friend before Todd, but he’s not just my friend’s husband, he’s also a full on partner in crime. I can tell you that he enjoys a nice hot McDonald’s French fry dipped in a parfait at 1:30 in the am after a night of dancing and drinking, he can handle the force that is Monica better than anyone I’ve ever met, and he is happy to embarrass himself for a laugh. I couldn’t wish for a better compliment for my friend who’s strong and witty and also not afraid to be the fool if it’s for the good of a laugh. It’s always a good time with these two, genuinely fun, adventurous people who also happen to have huge hearts and be super loyal friends.

A meme of the 4 of us would say something like, “we don’t always hang out together, but when we do the photographs might be referred to as evidence.”

My husband Scott and I started dating literally but a week after these two and the four of us have had some really great times together just being well, ourselves.

Now I have to say I was a little upset that when Todd pulled off the most epic proposal of all time I wasn’t invited to photograph it, I mean proposal at the Eiffel Tower Big, I want to go to Paris, I could have hid in your luggage!!!

Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 6.54.21 PM Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 6.54.47 PM Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 6.55.00 PM Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 6.55.13 PM

I was beyond thrilled when upon returning home and making the rounds they asked me if I’d be interested in being their photographer, while being sure I’d be able to do that and also enjoy being a guest at their wedding.   Not only do I love these two to death, but also Monica has the most impeccable taste and eye for detail and neither of them is hard on the eyes.   Being in a field where creativity and details collide herself, Monica was by far the easiest friend I’ve ever had for a client, we did business like business people and drank champagne like friends.  As the last couple weeks arrived I started to feel a little nervous myself, this was going to be the magical fairytale Monica had always dreamed of if I had anything to do with it! I don’t really get nervous for weddings after 8 years, but on that day I felt the pressure to make MAGIC happen.

(Don’t worry I did)

There is something about that old world feel of the beautiful Westchester Venue that they chose, the Old Oaks Country Club sort of made you feel like you were living in an old movie. Every last teeny tiny beautiful detail had been thought of, as I knew it would be.   Monica couldn’t possibly be a more detailed planner and of course nothing went as expected but she didn’t let that dull the sparkle of her day she threw caution to the wind and just marched forward.

As the clouds darkened and the threat of rain came at their beautifully decorated outdoor ceremony everyone was hiding out in the clubhouse waiting to seen if the rain would pass, and for a moment it seemed as if perhaps it had. As the ceremony began the skies were grey, as they began their vows the rain really started to come down.

Right about now is when you’d expect most people to freak out right? Not these two they just laughed about the rain and went right on with their ceremony. It seemed fitting to me that they start their life together as man and wife, not waiting for the storm to come… but dancing in the rain. That’s just who they are.

It was such an incredible honor to be a part of their special day and what a treat to have so many beautiful thoughtfully put together details to photograph, what a treat to have such incredibly beautiful clients who are also my dear friends. I have found myself telling people more than once that of all the things I enjoy photographing at a wedding, it’s not the stuff you spend money on that really gets me, it’s the people. My favorite weddings to photograph are those where both families couldn’t be happier for their loved ones and the tears and laughs and hugs and insanity pours from every moment of the day. 20 years from now when they look back at their wedding pictures I don’t want them to say we looked beautiful, I want their wedding pictures to put a lump in their throat and take them back to the emotion of their special day.

Thank you two for having me and the dream team, thank you to your families for raising some really excellent human beings that are such good friends to Scott and I. Thank you all for allowing us to capture the joy, and intimacy and love that you and your families share.

Because I just couldn’t choose a few I created a crazy slideshow for them that I shared with them and then forced them to keep secret till I finished the blog post (they’ve been waiting almost two weeks so patiently to share)

I suggest you watch the slideshow first and then leaf thru the gazillion pictures in this blog post of Monica and Todd’s Old Oaks Country Club Wedding in Purchase, NY  There are a LOT of pictures and I couldn’t narrow them down much more than I did so… well enjoy my indecision!

Totally worth waiting for it to load in HD!!

So are you freaking our right now, what… wait… I thought you were only doing Boudoir and Weddings now Aurora?   Well as a mainstay of my business I am and if you’ll notice there is no place on the main site for Fall Family Portraits, yet still I do offer them a couple times of year and even have a beautiful pricing brochure for my Fall Family Photography Pricing Special.

Why?

I continue to offer Family Portraits in the fall for a couple of reasons:

Fall-family-photography-aurora-photography-CT_0012 Fall-family-photography-aurora-photography-CT_0011

The first is simple it’s the most beautiful time of the year to live in New England, and fall is my absolute favorite season, it’s football season, the foliage is stunning the light is amazing and I want to spend every beautiful sunny fall afternoon outside in the crisp air drinking pumpkin spiced something!

The Second reason that I am still offering family portraits is because as I gain life experience, I realize how important it is to drink this in and celebrate our family each year. When I was new to the business, I read an article about the psychology behind portraits in the home and children’s sense of place and esteem in their family.  The article said that seeing photographs of themselves displayed in our homes increases a child’s sense of value and that family photos increased their sense of belonging.  Now I have no idea if there was a study done to prove this but when I read the article it made sense to me.  In my own home I proudly display 24×36 Canvas of my children and  an 18×24 Canvas of my husband and I.  As I write this I’m realizing, wow now look at that message I have sent right there, each child’s photo is larger than the one of my husband and myself individually but they are all hung the same 24 inch height.  Suddenly I’m thinking we need a huge picture of my husband and myself before these girls of mine become teenagers!

While my favorite things to photograph are women, and weddings I really enjoy watching families celebrate one another and so each fall I will continue to offer a special so that I can have all the things I enjoy most; fall afternoons spent in the sun watching women at their most beautiful interacting with their families.

I have some handy dandy guides to help you decide what to wear for your fall family portraits, and even some spectacular discounts on wall art.  Both the Fall Mini, and the Fall Deluxe come with Digital Images and a print release.  Please click the button below to receive my Fall Family Pricing Special.

Visit my Pinterest board for fall fashion inspiration and always feel free to ask once you book I also send you a guide to being sure you’re well dressed for your portraits, and if you are the kind of family that likes to make a statement and go against the grain I’m ok with that too!  I think everyone should rock their own style my goal is simply to help you do that in your most flattering way!

Hey out there world welcome to  Maleficent Vol 1 | CT Boudoir Photographer | Aurora Photography.

I’ve been planning this project for a REALLY REALLY long time and am very excited about the results from my second Villain Photo Shoot, a personal project I took on to re-ignite my energy and passion for my work.  In my every day work I don’t often get to play with costumes and wild hair and makeup, and there is rarely a good reason to work with some of the more dramatic lighting that I am getting to play with while working on this project.  Growing up “Aurora”,  I developed a particular fondness for this particular Mistress of Darkness,  as I’m moving into the project deeper I’m starting to feel out what I would like to do with the project, and so I present you with my version of the tale of Maleficent.

Maleficent, a dark heart or a troubled soul?

For many years the story has been told to us from the point at which we come to find Maleficent enacting her curse on an infant Aurora, but what happened before that? How did she come to be so angry and dark?

Once upon a time, in the enchanted forest there was a beautiful young fairy named Maleficent. She laughed and played with the other creatures of the forest; birds, deer, chipmunks, rabbits and more.  A bit on the curious side, she was seen as a free spirit and perhaps a bit mischievous. From a very young age it was apparent she had a special something about  her. She seemed to be a bit more powerful than the other fairies, and as a result was often ostracized or made to feel as though something were wrong with her.

Not feeling at home with her own people, one day Maleficent befriended a young boy in the forest and for years they were the best of friends, spending their days enjoying adventures together in the forest.  As the years passed on and they grew older, the boy began to notice the things about Maleficent that were different.  At first it was just curiosity and seemed not to thwart their growing friendship.

As the pair blossomed into young adults something changed. Her friend Stefan seemed to become somewhat distant and disapproving.  As Maleficent matured, scales (a bit like a dragon) began to emerge along her spine and decolletage , and her wings grew larger and more powerful than those of the other fairies, as did her magic.  At a time in her life when she was changing and struggling to fit in she was finding herself, she was feeling shunned by the one person who had ever made her feel as though she were special.C22C4147_CT- Curvy-Boudoir-Phtographer-Sexy-Photos-Aurora-Photography

For a time she didn’t see her friend Stefan at all, and she found herself wandering in dark parts of the forest, feeling sad and lonely. As she wandered she found some new friends; other creatures who had been thought of as ugly, dark and unworthy.  Maleficent found herself talking to these creatures and feeling as if they could understand her.
C22C4093 wip1_CT- Curvy-Boudoir-Phtographer-Sexy-Photos-Aurora-Photography

One day as she was wandering thru the forest, she walked right into what she thought to be a huntsman. Startled she opened her powerful wings and made for higher ground.  As she watched the huntsman from above, she noticed he seemed equally surprised, and also somewhat familiar.  The huntsman looked up into the trees and spoke “You there, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to startle you.”  In an instant Maleficent realized it was her estranged friend Stefan, and she flew down to greet him.C22C4132_CT- Curvy-Boudoir-Phtographer-Sexy-Photos-Aurora-Photography

For a few minutes it was what appeared to be a happy reunion; Stefan walked about her and marveled at her form and how much she had changed.   A sad look came over his face and he turned away as he spoke to Maleficent, “I’m sorry I am not here to visit, I came to see if the stories were true and now that I have seen for myself that they are. I am left with no other choice.”  and with that the turned and swung his trusty blade not once but twice, removing Maleficent’s beautiful strong wings.

Maleficent didn’t even try to defend herself, she hadn’t expected this at all.   Stefan gathered her wings and as he left her alone in the darkest part of the forest he turned back to say “You are not welcome in our kingdom, nor the enchanted forest any longer.  From this day forward you shall reside in the Dark Forest.”
C22C4128 wip1 staff2_CT- Curvy-Boudoir-Phtographer-Sexy-Photos-Aurora-Photography

For what seemed like ages, Maleficent lay on the floor of the Dark Forest sobbing uncontrollably. She had been ostracized before, but it had never hurt like this. Stefan had looked at her as if she were some sort of monster.  After some time her sadness grew into a deep anger. If a monster was what he wanted, a monster he would get!C22C3907 tpf_CT- Curvy-Boudoir-Phtographer-Sexy-Photos-Aurora-Photography

Alone in the Dark Forrest with her other “ugly” friends, Maleficent grew ever more powerful and evermore filled with rage.  Diablo, a large Raven, had become her best friend and eyes into the outside world while she waited until she was sure she would be powerful enough to defeat any who would oppose her to make her return.

The day of Maleficent’s return, was the day of Princess Aurora’s christening, and we know how that part of the story goes…C22C4034_CT- Curvy-Boudoir-Phtographer-Sexy-Photos-Aurora-Photography
